Purpose of the course:

This course delivers 7 hours Accredited *CPD classroom and practical instruction with assessment. It offers delegates training to enable them to identify potential risks and hazards associated with accessing and working on rooftops using either temporary of permanently installed safety devices. Delegates will be able to consider the hierarchy of control measures when using personal work positioning, fall restraint and fall arrest systems.

On completion of the course, delegates should be able to identify what risks may be present when accessing and working on rooftops and ensure suitable control measures are in place, including adequate emergency arrangements (HS07 – 1 Day Rescue & Recovery from Height Course) prior to any rooftop work being carried out. They will be able to carry out pre use harness checks and fitting, practically use permanent or temporary access systems and work safely whilst on the structure.

  • Overview of the Work at Height and associated regulations
  • Providing edge protection
  • Rooftop Access & Access Systems
  • Fragile Surfaces (Roofs)
  • Rooftop Safe Systems of Work
  • First Aid requirements and understanding suspension syncope
  • The requirement for an Emergency & Rescue Plan
  • Practical pre-use checking and fitting of harness and FPE
  • Practical fixed ladder access using fall arrest equipment
  • Practical use of rooftop fall restraint systems
  • Practical use of work positioning systems
  • Written & practical assessments

  • Course duration: One day (9:00am – 5:00pm)
  • Maximum instructor/delegate ratio: 1:6
  • Delivery: Classroom based theory and practical training
  • Assessment: Multiple choice test paper and practical skills assessment
  • Certification: CPD Accredited Certificate of Training (valid for 3 years)

Additional Information:

  • Delegates must have a good command of written and spoken English
  • Delegates must be medically and physically fit to work at height and carry out manual handling (a self-certification questionnaire is to be completed on the course)
  • Delegates require basic PPE (gloves, sturdy footwear) and clothing suitable for the environment (FPE equipment will be provided)
  • Delegates must have an aptitude for working at height
