3 Day MATS (EUSR) Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue Course - On Site

Purpose of the course
This 3 day course is designed to provide 21 hours of theoretical and practical training with assessment to enable delegates employed to work on towers and masts in the telecommunications and broadcast industry to meet the training standard set by the Mast & Tower Safety (MATS) Group and approved by the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR).

On completion of the course, delegates will have the requisite underpinning knowledge required to safely and competently climb and undertake rescues from towers and masts within the framework of The Mast and Tower Safety (MATS): Basic Tower Climbing & Rescue scheme.
What will be covered on the course

Theory/Practical Activities (Knowledge, understanding & practical skills).

  • Legislation & safety standards. 
  • Inspecting rescue equipment and selecting rescue techniques.
  • Managing common hazards, assessing risk and developing rescue plans.
  • Using harnesses and fall arrest lanyards on fixed fall arrest systems.
  • Selecting appropriate anchor points.
  • Managing suspension Intolerance (syncope).
  • Using knots and “off-weighting” techniques to rescue from permanent guided type system using pulley system .
  • Demonstrating climbing techniques, and emergency evacuation from tower.
  • Descent rescue from permanent guided type system, and from work position lanyards.
  • Descent rescue of suspended casualty using a fall arrest lanyard.

Three days (09:00-17:00)

Morsafe Limited E-certificate Basic Climbing & Rescue (1 year)
Note: One day HS14 Basic Climbing & Rescue Revalidation course required every 12 months

EUSR Registration & virtual card (annual renewal)

This course includes registration and certification with Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR)

EUSR registrations - Delegates who are already registered with EUSR must provide their ID numbers at course registration

First time registrants must provide a email address, digital passport photo (.jpg format) and mobile phone number when booking or at course registration

Course requirements and prerequisites
Delegates must have a good command of the English language

Delegates must be aged 18 and over 

Successful completion of this course will be accepted by Arqiva, Cellnex, MBNL, CTIL, EE, Vodafone, Telefonica, BT, Network Rail and other MATs group member sites under the approved scheme

Delegates will require confirmation of medical fitness or complete a self-certification statement

Delegates will require footwear and clothing to suit the course and weather conditions

Climbing equipment will be provided.
