Purpose of the course
Purpose of the course:

This 1 day course is designed to provide 7 hours of classroom and practical instruction with assessment so that delegates understand the hierarchy of working at height controls and can identify potential risks and hazards associated with accessing fixed structures up to 12m whilst remaining within the safety of the structure using either temporary or permanently installed safety devices in accordance with the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

On completion of the course, delegates should be able to identify what risks may be present when accessing and working on fixed structures, ensure suitable control measures are in place, select and use appropriate equipment to allow safe access and egress and have adequate emergency arrangements in place prior to any work being carried out.

  • Typical hazards associated with working at height
  • Preventing falls from and off access systems
  • The requirement for an Emergency & Rescue Plan
  • First Aid requirements and understanding suspension syncope
  • Multiple-choice test paper
Practical
  • Set up site (drop zone)
  • Pre-use checks of equipment & structure
  • Correct & safe use of Double Lanyard & Work Positioning
  • Correct & safe use of Fall Arrest System & Fall Arrest Block
  • Correct & safe use of Work Restraint System
  • Lifting and lowering kit

Course requirements and prerequisites
Delegates must have a good command of the English language.
Delegates will require confirmation of medical fitness or complete self-certification.
Delegates will require footwear and clothing to suit the course and weather conditions.
General PPE will be provided.
Climbing equipment will be provided.
