Purpose of the course:

This course delivers 3 hours Accredited *CPD classroom and practical instruction with assessment. It offers delegates training in the inspection, selection, checking and use of appropriate ladders when carrying out short duration work at height in accordance with the Work Height Regulations.

On completion of the course, delegates should be able to inspect typical standard portable and step ladders to ensure they are fit for purpose and record the results, identify faults and quarantine ladders that do not meet the requirements of the inspection regime. They should also be able to identify what type of ladder is suitable for a given task and understand the risks involved applying suitable control measures when carrying out typical general maintenance tasks using ladders and steps.

What will be covered on the course:

  • An overview of the Work at Height and associated regulations
  • Introduction to what is “work at height”
  • The hierarchy of control measures
  • Types of ladders and typical use
  • General storage, security and maintenance
  • Inspection of portable and step ladders
  • Hazards associated with the use of portable and step ladders
  • Pre use checks & practical use of portable and step ladders

Course summary

  • Course duration: Half day (am 09:00-12:00 or pm 13:00 -16:00)
  • Maximum instructor/delegate ratio: 1:8
  • Delivery: Classroom based theory and practical use of ladders
  • Assessment: Multi choice question paper and practical assessment
  • Certification: CPD Accredited Certificate of Training (valid for 3 years)

Additional Information:

  • Delegates must have a good command of both written and spoken English
  • Delegates require basic PPE (gloves, sturdy footwear) and clothing suitable for the environment
  • Delegates require an aptitude for working at height on portable ladders
